How do you rate hip hop compared to other genres?
Q. I know hip hop catches a lot of hate from fans of other genres, but how does it hold up against them with you as hip hop fans? Do you think hip hop has made the same contributions to music as rock/pop/country whatever? What's the highest placing you would give a rapper on a list of all time musical greats of any genre?

A. Hip Hop is the baby of music. It has only existed since the 70's, and has been given a bad name for most of those years. Musical legends of other genres are fairly easy to find. The Beatles, Miles Davis, Bob Dylan, etc are artists your pretty much born knowing. Where as Chuck D, Ghostface, Rakim and Kool G Rap are artists you have to find on your own really. When people hear all of the one hit wonders on the radio, as well as all of the songs about sex, drugs, etc. They just say what the he'll is this? It's garbage. Which is partially their fault and partially the radios fault because they don't look hard enough and the radio plays the gabage that they are mistakenly calling Hip Hop. Anyway, if you look at hip hop as a lifestyle, and… [cont.]

Q. I know mainstream hip hop sucks so you dont have to tell me. But for some reason I like the song Out Her Grindin by dj kahled. I know it sucks & isn't lyrical or as good as old school hip hop but I like it. So do any of you like a song like that?

A. Young Jeezy may rhyme with the complexity of a five year old and the voice of a 90 year old crackhead, but most of his songs have a strong appeal.

What else can seniors do during the homecoming hip hop at the pep rally?
Q. Our school always does a pep rally for homecoming. At the pep rally they play silly little games and my class always wins because we're the biggest (103). The highlights of the whole thing are the hip hop dances. This year I am teaching both dances (the seniors and the faculty) but my goal is to involve all of the seniors even the ones who don't want to dance into at least one part of the hip hop. I need ideas besides just having them hold signs and then walking out with all of the dancers at the end. Please help!

How do you become a good hip-hop dancer before December, and fast?
Q. My friends are performing a show, and they invited me to help. They couldn't find anyone else so I agreed, the problem is, I'm a horrible dancer. They've agreed to show me the choreography and the steps, and I'm sure I can get those down, but I'm just so stiff and not fluent Any suggestions on that? Any any tips with hip-hop? I need some suggestions/tips, and any information would be helpful. Thanks!

Is there a link between underground hip hop and being a fan of other genres?
Q. This isn't general or absolute, just an observation. I've noticed that most people who are fans of underground tend to have deep taste in other genres. What do you think the link is? Is it the different samples used in underground or what? Question 2: Buy Or Sell - People with diverse taste in music tend to be better at explaining themselves on hip hop issues? Question 3: Who likes The Mars Volta?
Asked by The Humble Capnificent - Fri Sep 11 12:47:59 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Speaking first-hand, it's the underground fans' quest to prove how much they know about music. When you first start listening to underground artists, you think you're the bees knees because you know more hip hop artists than all of your friends. Then as you get into the underground scene, you get underground friends who know more than you, so you step your game up with more obscure hip hop artists. Then it becomes a competition to see who can learn the most, and it starts to get to the point where when you try to impress your friends, and they're always like "I've been listening to MC 10-Fans for four years." Then you have no choice but to start listening to obscure ragtime stragglers from the 40s, Indonesian free jazz from the 80s, and… [cont.]

What should a hip-hop dancer wear occasionally when not dancing?
Q. It's not like a hip-hop dancer is going to wear prep or skater brands. Although they can. Just asking what they wear today and what brand.
Asked by C.J. - Mon Dec 29 01:17:11 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I'm a hip hop dancer and I dress prep. Just dress however you want to, all hip hop dancers will tell you something different. Some bboys wear skater clothes, others wear trendy clothes. My good friend simply wears dance clothes all the time. I don't suggest that, but wear what you'd like.

A. Work on your talent. When you are good, shop it around to labels. Meanwhile put together a myspace, a youtube vlog, and build a fanbase. If you have fans already, the label is more willing to talk. You have to prove to them you can sell records. I only mentioned that talent part for the sake of us having to hear it. It all depends on how much money you can make the label. Good luck to you. If you need any online marketing help, visit www.nielsendata.com, they are the top of the line online morketing firm.

What should hip hop success be based on?
Q. Is it the money you make? Is it the commercial success you have? Is it the street cred you achieve? Like the battle between Eminem and Cage. The mainstream would say Eminem won easy because everyone's heard of him, but true hip hop heads are split. I actually think Cage won because he still does great art and Eminem seems to do what sells. So I feel Eminem gave up quality for Money, I'm not saying that's bad but that's why I'm asking the question.

In what ways does modern hip-hop culture cause damaging minstrel stereotypes of African Americans?
Q. I have this questions for a theater class. We're supposed to come up with three arguments as to how it is true that hip-hop today causes these damaging stereotypes, and three arguments as to how it is false that hip-hop today causes these damaging stereotypes. I have come up with 2 for how it is true, but I can't seem to come up with how it is false. Any true or false statements would be helpful!! Thank you!

A. You are not going to like this answer. I am not racist and have many African-American friends... But many people give into stereotypes. I live in a southern town that honestly is (in the last Census) 98% black. Most of the black people shout unintelligable things to each other in the parking lots, dress like sluts/gangstas, use 4-letter words more than necessary, and you know that horrid "joke" about if you want to hide something from a black person, put it in a book? Obviously that is ignorant, but in my town, it rings true. Many blacks have a culture that is just... different? My friends are genuinely educated and do not exhibit any of the above behaviours. I think if people don't want to be thought of in a certain way, they shouldn't… [cont.]
