Region is most commonly a geographical term that is used in various ways among the different branches of geography. In general, a region is a medium-scale area of land or water, smaller than the whole areas of interest (which could be, for example, the world, a nation, a river basin, mountain range, and so on), and larger than a specific site. A region may be seen as a collection of smaller units (as in "the New England states") or as one part of a larger whole (as in "the New England region of the United States"). Regions can be defined by physical characteristics, human characteristics, and functional characteristics. As a way of describing spatial areas, the concept of regions is important and widely used among the many branches of geography, each of which can describe areas in regional terms. For example, ecoregion is a term used in environmental geography, cultural region in cultural geography, bioregion in biogeography, and so on. The field of geography that studies regions themselves is called regional geography. In the fields of physical geography, ecology, biogeography, zoogeography, and environmental geography, regions tend to be based on natural features such as ecosystems or biotopes, biomes, drainage basins, mountain ranges, soil types, and so on. I'm about to join a regional airline as a pilot here in Japan, but my ultimate goal is to fly for a carrier based in the US(regional or domestic preferred). Would this be possible as long as I log in the hours? And yes, I have US citizenship. Asked by David B - Fri Oct 19 22:13:25 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. From what I understand there is a real pilot shortage crisis looming, especially in North America. Students are being picked up by major airlines with hardly 200 hours because they want to reserve them when they finally get their ATP. If you have US Citizenship, I see no reason why it would not be possible. You could even go for a small US based regional airline right now, but perhaps the best would be to log in the time in Japan, get as many type ratings you can get and than go strait to a legacy airline such as AA, Delta, Northwest, Continental or United. How did you end up in Japan anyways? I'd be interested to know... Answered by Yoshi - Fri Oct 19 23:52:19 2007 What determines if an airport is considered Regional or International?
Q. I am a Flight Attendant for Delta Airlines and recently worked on a GPT (Gulf-port/Biloxi MS) to ATL (Atlanta GA) flight and noticed that they were calling GPT an international airport when in fact it doesn't have any scheduled airline service to an international city outside of the US. They also consider PFN (Panama City FL) an international airport. Pensacola has a way bigger airport big enough to use 757's and we call it a regional airport. Whats up with that? Asked by AAGAAG - Mon Mar 23 17:03:46 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. The first answer is incorrect -- size has nothing to do with the designation. The only thing that makes an airport an international airport (as opposed to a regional airport) is the presence of customs and immigration facilities at the airport -- if it has these facilities, it can be designated as an international airport. While international airports are typically larger than regional airports, this is not always the case -- the airport in Bellingham, Washington, for example, is an international airport because it has the proper facilities. The airport, however, is very small, with only a few commercial flights in and out of it each day -- and none of these flights are to destinations in Canada. It does, however, act as a port of… [cont.] Answered by flash_flotsam - Mon Mar 23 18:05:53 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "regional" Shizuoka Bank May Miss Net Forecast on Anabuki Loans
